Double Glazing is the idea of putting 2 sheets of glass in your windows rather than one to insulate more. Double glazing reduces the amount of cold air getting out as well as the amount of noise getting in.

This is a great idea in England due our cold weather, the extra layer of glass stops them low temperatures from getting in.

Double glazing is a need if you live on a very loud street or a city apartment where there is loud people on the street. if you do then double glazing is a great way to separate your home form the outside world and not get woken up at night!

It is also a must if you live on a less noisy street but have a small child who sleeps in the day.

Although double glazing may be more expensive than single glass to install, it can benefit greatly, and the money you save on heating bills will almost certainly pay for the installation.

In this guide we are going to try wipe out the myths involved with planning permission and replace with facts.

The building of new building, large external changes or you wish to change the purpose in which you use land will most probably need planning permission.

Internal alterations such as decorating, new kitchen & bathroom and repair and maintenance you will most likely not need planning permission providing that the work does not effect the buildings external appearance or purpose.

DO YOU NEED PLANNING FOR….

Home Extension: YES! but you may have certain permitted development rights. click here for more information.

Demolish A Building: You will not normally require planning permission to demolish a building, however you will to erect a new build in its place.

Install New Windows: Usually you will not need planning permission for new windows as this comes under permitted development, there are certain cases when this is not applicable, if your building is listed or in a conservation area you may require planning permission, you window fitter can tell you more about your property.

New Kitchen or Bathroom: No, you will not need planning permission for this.

Decorate My Home: No , you will not need planning permission for this.

Demolish Existing home and Build a new one: unless building is listed you will not need planning permission to demolish it, you will however need planning permission to build the new home.

Verify The Company

You can only use this method for builders opperating under a ltd company. if they are you need to be sure to check their details against the details on companies house. Log onto the companies house website, and compare the details on that with the ones given to you by your builder.

Find Reviews

many directories allow you to add reviews so be sure to check out these directories and make sure good reviews are there, if there is no reviews don’t worry.

Ask for References

Always ask your builder for references, this could be pictures of previous work of phone numbers of previous clients.
